Meet Kristin Levine
Kristin Levine, the author of The Best Bad Luck I Ever Had and The Lions of Little Rock graduated from Swarthmore College in 1997 with a Bachelor of Arts in German (Fairfax County, 2012). Before publishing her works, she carried a number of positions - from an au pair in Vienna, Austria to a professor of screenwriting at American University where she received her Masters of Fine Arts degree in the subject (Fairfax County, 2012). Her first book, The Best Bad Luck I Ever Had, one of the American Library Association's 2010 Best Books for Young Adults and a Virginia Readers' Choice, was published in 2009. Being loosely based on her grandfather's memoir, it tells the story of a white farm boy, Dit, and an African-American city girl, Emma's unlikely friendship during a time of great racial discord in rural Alabama during 1917 (Fairfax County, 2012). Currently, she lives in Alexandria, Virginia with her husband and two children (as cited by Zielin) where she is mulling over the genre of her next book - either science fiction or fantasy.
